Tomato Mix – Growing instructions

The germination time itself only lasts about two weeks – at least under optimal conditions

You can plant tomatoes directly in the pre-moistened germ soil, but here are a few tips to achieve maximum success:

  • Put seeds in lukewarm water overnight and let them swell
  • Place seeds in lukewarm chamomile tea for 5-8 hours

Then plant the seeds about 0.5cm – 1cm deep in the growing soil. The temperature has not an inconsiderable influence on the germination time or on the germination frequency. However, they should be kept at 20ºC – 24ºC degrees on the windowsill/indoors. Also, the temperature should not exceed 30ºC degrees.

The soil should be kept moist however, no waterlogging should occur (hole in the planter so that the water can drain off).

In order to support the germination, it is recommended to cover the seeds when they germinate for example with transparent film, if there is no mini-greenhouse available.

Do you have some plastic cups from the last barbecue? Small greenhouses can be easily built from this. Simply cut off the edge of one cup, fill it with planting material and put the other one upside down on it. With this trick you can achieve a moist and warm microclimate that is really important for the germination of tomato seeds.

But ATTENTION: Please „ventilate“ once a day and make a hole in the floor so that excess water can runoff. If the second pair of leaves can be seen, it no longer has to be covered and can be transplanted into a larger container.

Often you read from experts that you should give the plants a lot of sun, but we have found that if you let the plant grow in the penumbra at 18-22 degrees (the first 3-4 weeks after germination) the plant grows more slowly but becomes much stronger. Especially, if you plant them outside in an area that is more windy.

You should water either with a spray bottle or a pouring attachment for PET bottles (available from us in the shop).

We wish you lots of fun and great results with our seeds.
